MUSIC VIDEOS

Over the years Deco Dawson has been sought out by bands keen to employ an original, lo-fi, degraded, shot-on-film aesthetic. Known for his hallucinogenic effects and punk approach, both cinematographically as well as his guerrilla-indie spirit, Deco Dawson is a sought-after director of music videos with an inimitable style, as demonstrated by the music video examples below.

In 2007, the rock band Metric approached Deco Dawson about their upcoming concert film, Metric: Live at Metropolis. Unhappy with the footage shot by the original production company, the band asked Dawson to step in as editor and reimagine the project as a Deco Dawson concert film. Given carte blanche, he re-contextualized the performance through visual effects, layering, split screen and montage editing, creating a concert film unlike any other. It was the first of many collaborations between Dawson and the band, which went on to include two music videos and a live concert production in Vancouver that he supervised.
