Having started as a playwright and director before tackling cinema, in 2005 Deco Dawson was asked to contribute projections for an upcoming theatre show that required his knowledge of film/video and theatre.
Since then, and although still a part-time occupation, Deco is very much in demand as a theatre projection designer, due mostly to his vast knowledge of film and post-production effects,as well as his extensive experience working in the theatre as a playwright and director.
The New York Times has called Deco's projection work "Jaw-Dropping" and Theatre Mania on Broadway wrote 'Dawson's beautiful projections are the highlight of the the production."
Deco's work has been featured at the New Victory Theatre Off-Broadway, the 2015 Pan Am Games, the 2012 Vancouver Cultural Olympiad, at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, at Canstage Toronto, the Vancouver Playhouse and in collaboration with Jim Jarmusch for a workshop presentation of his upcoming Opera Telsa at the Winnipeg New Music Festival.
